What a difference an inch makes! The 25-½”-scale neck on this Custom Shop Les Paul Long Scale lends this venerable design a whole new bag of tricks. For Les Paul lovers who may reluctantly put their LPs aside in favor of a longer scale guitar when it’s time for drop tunings or slide work, no such tradeoff is necessary with this versatile guitar.
Along with its slightly greater string tension, this long-scale LP has the playing feel Fender fans cherish. Custom Bucker pickups pour out that classic PAF-like tone, which coupled with the extra scale length, is at once beefier yet highly articulate. Crystalline harmonics and rolling bass notes give it tonal heft to spare. The thin, ‘60s-profile neck is shredder-friendly and the lightweight mahogany body goes down easy on those long gigs.

As you’d expect with a Custom Shop Les Paul, every detail is beyond reproach. The carved two-piece maple top is beautifully framed with single-layer reissue cream binding and the fingerboard is inlaid with split parallelograms giving it classic LP looks. It’s only when you pick it up and start playing that the delights of a longer neck make themselves known.
A couple of our Private Reserve Guitar advisors offer their impressions:
This guitar was long overdue! I love the extra "snap" the 25.5" scale adds to the sound of the guitar. Chords also sound great up and down the neck. If you have big fingers like me, any extra room between frets is a good thing!
A little extra tension goes a long way in feel and tone on these Les Pauls. I love the beef and balance of a Les Paul with the string feel of a Fender. The longer scale gives bass notes more authority and adds a little bit of swiftness to the response all over the fretboard. Plus, the Custom Buckers are glorious and a goldtop with split parallelogram inlays is super slick.
